How to Stop Fear Holding You Back

Perhaps you’re too scared to try. Or you have a fear of failure. 

Fear can have an intense hold on even the strongest of people, especially when it comes to running a business. That’s why, we’ve complied our top tips for stopping fear in its tracks. So, go on, live your best life!  

  1. Look at the worst-case-scenario 

In order to get over fear or doubts you need to face them head on. Take some time to think about the worst-case-scenario in detail. Will it ruin your entire business? Is there no coming back from this scenario? How likely is it that this scenario will actually happen?  

Generally speaking, when we face worst-case-scenarios is great detail we realise that our fears don’t match the end result.  

  1. Consider both positive and negative outcomes 

If you push fear aside and take a leap of faith, what are the positive and negative outcomes? And how will you move past them? 

Thinking through these steps will also help you weigh up the pros and cons of taking the leap. 

  1. Think about the timing

For most people, fear is justified by timing. 

“It’s not a good time to start a new project.”

“I need to wait until…”

“Once I make a return on X, I’ll do X.” 

Do any of the points above sound familiar? If you can’t find a more genuine reason than timing as to why you shouldn’t do something, chances are you simply afraid.

Are you holding yourself back from the fear of what other people may think or say? One of the best things business people can do is develop a thick skin so that other people no longer bother them.
