Running a business can be challenging for anyone. There is a real risk of burning out and the responsibility of keeping yourself motivated falls on one person: you!
So how can you stay motivated when the days feel long and tough?
Look after your body and mind
In order to keep yourself motivated, you need to first look after your body and mind.
Some of our favourite tips include:
- Taking regular breaks throughout the day
- Stepping outside for a walk in the sun
- Having a quick phone call with friends or family
- Avoiding drinking too much caffeine
- Remind yourself why you’re doing this
- Implement a routine that includes me-time
- Use a calendar so you don’t feel stressed or rushed
- Give yourself rewards for reaching business goals
When your body and mind feel good, it’s so much easier to look at the world through positive and motivated eyes.
Get out of the house
For many people who operate their own business the biggest gripe can be isolation, especially when you work from home.
We recommend getting out of the house at least once a week. This doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t get your work done. Instead, we recommend getting creative about where you do your work.
Some people like catching up on business emails at their favourite café, while others find the peaceful atmosphere of their local library soothing. You can even try working from a park or garden.
Having the flexibility to choose where you work can be amazing for your business motivation. We say, use it to your advantage!
Reach out for support
Finally, we cannot stress the importance of reaching out for support when you need it most. This can be as simple as talking to your friends or family or even seeking assistance from a counsellor or therapist.
There is no shame in admitting that you’re struggling with motivation or feeling overwhelmed. The act of talking about these feelings can often be just the nudge you need to get motivated again.
