How to Stay Focused During the Holiday Season

Do you ever feel like December rolls around and everyone starts clocking off early and heading to Christmas shindigs, except you? 

This can be a common feeling for people who own their own business or work remotely – and it can make it incredibly difficult to stay focused during the holiday season. 

That’s why we’ve rounded up our favourite pieces of advice to ensure you have the best December possible. Sound good to you? 

Clear your mind

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with everything that you need to do in your professional and personal life. We love the idea of clearing your mind by getting everything down on paper. Having thorough to-do lists will allow you to stay on track and keep you feeling calm during times of high stress. Repeat after us – you’ve got this! 

Avoid distractions

The holiday season comes with its own set of distractions. From shopping online when you should be working, taking personal calls, or spending time talking about your holiday activities – it can add up fast. We recommend taking proactive action by putting your phone on aeroplane mode for periods of time to ensure you are productive and stay on task. This can be especially useful if you’re the kind of person who has to check every single beep or email that comes through. 

Don’t over-commit 

Along with getting distracted during the holidays it can be very easy to overcommit. There are numerous parties to attend and it can be very tempting to RSVP yes to every single one of them. We recommend being selective and ensuring that you also schedule in some down time for yourself to ensure you don’t burn out. 

The same goes for accepting clients throughout the holiday season. If you know that you’re not going to be able to deliver the high standard of work that they expect, consider postponing any new appointments until January and focusing on the ones you have in the meantime. 

Take care of yourself physically

Finally, we always recommend that business owners or remote workers set aside time to care for themselves physically. This can be as simple as heading out for a brisk walk each morning and ensuring that you eat nutritious meals each evening. 

It sure does sound simple but it works wonders during the stressful holiday season.
