How to Practice Self Care During Your Workday

Self-care has become a bit of a buzzword in recent years – and for a good reason. 

Self-care refers to the activities and actions you do that help you to stay at the top of your form physically, emotionally and mentally. 

In short, self-care is care that is provided ‘for you, by you’ and can be incredibly helpful when you’re not feeling 100% or are starting to feel stressed or burnt-out. It can even help you recharge and manage health issues. 

So, how can you practice self-care during your workday? 

  1. Schedule a time-out in your workday – every day! 

The easiest way to ensure you achieve the full benefits of self-care is to schedule a time-out into your workday for self-care. 

This should be a non-negotiable time where you do something that makes you feel good or relaxed. And nothing else. 

You don’t need to block out entire hours to reach the full benefits of self-care. 10-15 minutes each day can be just as fulfilling. Sounds great to us! 

  1. Be prepared with a list of self-care activities

In order to make the most of your self-care time, you need to be prepared. Take some time to make a list of all the activities that bring you joy. 

It might be useful to create two lists as not all activities are practical for the work day. For example, some people find swimming or hiking to be very therapeutic, but it’s not something you can achieve within a short time frame. 

Activities such as listening to a guided meditation app on your phone, writing a gratitude journal, reading for pleasure, walking around the block, or making a quick phone call to a close friend are ideal because they can be achieved within your work day.

  1. Be patient with yourself

For some people, it can be difficult to find an activity that allows them to relax and switch off from the pressures of their day to day business life. This is ok. You may need to try a few different activities before you find something that clicks best with your personality type and needs. 

The important thing here is that you persist and keep engaging in self-care! It will get easier, you can trust us on that one.
