There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to organising your kitchen. It often comes down to personal preference and the frequency of use for any particular item.
Below is one guide and set of ideas for organizing your kitchen.
Cupboards over the sink
Cupboards over the sink, or cupboards which are located at eye level and above are perfect for those items you want kept in hard to reach places. Or items which are not used very frequently.
Consider storing the following items here:
- Glasses – you want to keep your glassware out of children’s reach to reduce breakage. They’ll be able to reach the glasses when they’re at an appropriate age to use them.
- Crockery – remember all those serving dishes you only use once a year? These higher up cupboards are a great place for storing these.
Cupboards below the sink
This area is notorious for getting dirty and disorganised, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Consider installing a rod beneath the sink which you can hang all your cleaning products off of. This gives you more space to utilise beneath the rod, and keeps all your cleaning supplies neat and tidy.
Additionally, consider setting aside a cupboard at this level for your children’s items. Keeping it low means they have access to their own cups and plates, which also helps when doing the dishes. Your children can’t put dishes away if they can’t reach where they belong.
Other cupboards at this height can be utilised for items that need easy access or are items you don’t wish to store up high. This includes baking trays, pots and pans, and even bulky kitchen appliances.
Two words. Drawer dividers. These are so useful; you’ll wonder why you didn’t have them in the first place. It’s really that simple!
A unique way of arranging your pantry to to split it into zones. You then group together all the items that are used for a particular meal in each of the zones. For example, a breakfast zone would hold cereal, bread, oatmeal, muesli etc. This makes it easy for grabbing food in a hurry as you’re not left searching the back of the pantry for necessary ingredients.
