How to Create a Successful Work Routine

If you’ve ever worked from home, you’ll understand the importance of having a good work routine. 

You may have gone through a phase of sleeping in too late, failing to dedicate your time properly, or getting caught up answering personal calls simply because you can.

Whatever the reason may be, we all know that a solid work routine is the key for business success. That’s why we’re sharing our top tips for creating one below. 

Get up at the same time everyday 

All good routines start with an alarm clock. In order to create a successful work routine, you need to treat your time the same as you would if you were working a 9-5 job. This means setting an alarm each evening and making sure you get up at the same time every day. 

You may not jump straight into work each morning but having a solid routine will do wonders. If you need another reason, many successful people around the globe claim to be early risers. 

Create a dedicated work space

Are you trying to work from the kitchen table? Or even the lounge room couch? While it may be feasible in the short term, for long term success you want to look at creating a dedicated work space within your home. A desk and sturdy ergonomic chair are the first essentials you should look at getting. Anything else is just an added bonus. 

Be prepared with a list 

Next up, we recommend starting each day with a list. This allows you to know what needs to be achieved and you can even rank items in order of priority. 

We love writing our daily to do lists at the end of each day. This gives you the chance to reflect upon what you have achieved so far and set out your next day’s work while tasks are still fresh in your mind. Even better, you don’t have to worry about it in the morning – you can just sit down and your desk and get straight to work. Talk about a time saving routine! 

Don’t work after hours 

Lastly, it’s always a good idea to have a set finishing time. It can be very tempting to do a few hours of work in the evening after the kids have gone to bed – but this will only serve to merge your home and professional lives into one! Keep boundaries in place for a successful routine by switching off after hours.
