Business in many ways, is all about image – especially the image you convey to potential customers and businesses.
But how can you home a great professional image AND appear successful when you’re just starting out?
Presentation is everything
We’re sure you’ve heard it before, but presentation really is everything. Most people will not hire someone for a service if they don’t appear successful, or worse still, like they don’t know what they’re doing.
When approaching new customers or business opportunities it’s important to take care of the way you present yourself. Ensure that your clothes are ironed, that you have all relevant documentation with you in a neat and orderly manner, and it should go without saying, always be on time!
Small things like a strong handshake and making eye contact with the person you are pitching to can also make a huge impact.
Do your research
Along with presenting professionally, it’s very important to be informed.
Always ensure that you complete thorough research before meeting with potential customers and businesses. You should not only know the ins and outs of the service you are offering, but also the basis of the customers’ needs and how you can help them.
If you’re approaching businesses, spend time reading their company website along with any social media profiles they may have. Both of these will help you get a better feel of the way they function.
Another good idea is imagining yourself in their shoes and considering what you would want to hear! Once you’ve done your research you can then hone your pitch accordingly.
Practice your pitch
Once you’ve done your research it’s time to practice your pitch.
The easiest and most successful way of ensuing you know what you’re talking about and actually sounding like you do, is by practicing. After all, practice makes perfect.
Gather your kids, husband, or stand in front of the bathroom mirror and start practicing. We recommend running through your spiel several times to iron out any creases that may appear.
Practice will also help you feel more comfortable and confident.
Over time the need to practice will vanish, but when first starting out it’s just as important as knowing your information.
Appearing successful when starting out is possible! Especially if you follow these tips as laid out above.
