You’ve probably heard us discuss the importance of work-life balance before. We can’t stress it enough! And sadly, one of the biggest perils of running your own business, is finding time for yourself, your hobbies, and the other people in your life.
So can it be done? Can you achieve work-life balance without damaging your business or career?
Put simply, yes. Keep reading if you’re keen to know how.
- Get organised
It doesn’t matter what method you use, but you simply must be organised. Buy yourself a fancy diary, set up an online calendar, or use a notebook to keep track of appointments. The point here is that you need a system in place to successfully manage your time.
- Carve out time for yourself
Now that you’re using a diary to manage your day to day activities, you can start scheduling in time for the other areas of your life that you may be neglecting.
This includes activities like your hobbies, exercise, family nights, kids sporting matches, etc. You can also choose to schedule in “me time” that can be used as you see fit.
We often look at our work commitments as non-negotiable. It makes sense. But you can also use this approach in other areas of your life to ensure you keep yourself balanced.
- Let go of being perfect
The greatest way to waste time when running a business is to dwell on perfection. It can be incredibly easy to fall into the trap of thinking that everything you do has to be 100% perfect, but at the same time, it’s incredibly easy to lose a lot of time trying to achieve this “so-called” perfection.
Now, we’re not saying you should drop the standard of you work. Rather it’s important to understand that life is busy and sometimes a 95% effort is what you’ll only be able to achieve.
Switching this mindset is also proven to reduce burnout and increase overall work satisfaction. Now that certainly sounds like a winning combination to us!
