Calling all make up fanatics! This one is for you!
Cleaning your make up brushes can be a simple process, but it is one people often avoid. If neglected, bits of make up, oil and bacteria can build up in the bristles of your brushes and spread back to your face causing breakouts.
Ideally, you should give your brushes a deep cleaning once a week. They will require a few hours to dry so it’s best to plan in advance and incorporate cleaning into your morning schedule once a week.
To clean your brushes follow these steps:
- Run the brush under lukewarm water to remove any excess make up collected in the brush.
- Fill a shallow bowl with lukewarm water and a small amount of baby shampoo or brush cleaner and swirl your brushes in the bowl.
- After lather is built up rinse the brush under running water. Repeat these steps until the water runs clear.
- Use a cloth to wipe the brushes and reshape the bristles, then leave to air dry flat on the cloth.
And ta-da! Your brushes are now squeaky clean and ready to be stored away with the rest of your make up.
Storing make up is a cinch and can de-clutter your bathroom in an instant if done effectively.
But before you start organising, sort through your products and remove all expired ones and bin them immediately. If you have clean brushes, you don’t want to be putting old make up on that beautiful face of yours.
Make up should be stored away from direct sunlight and for this reason drawers are the better option. It also keeps your vanity space free and clean.
Stackable containers are a fantastic option for makeup because you can sort different products into separate containers making it super easy to get ready in the morning. Clear containers streamline this even further.
Sort your make up brushes upright in a glass jar or cup inside your vanity cupboard. Try and separate your face and eye brushes to avoid confusion and to limit the brushes that can touch each other.
To make it easier to remember, schedule cleaning and sorting time into your diary and make it a commitment you can’t back out of.
Once you’re in a routine, you won’t ever think twice.
